EDITOR,
What good is a political contract that these city candidates are going to break that anyway. Mayoral candidate Celeste Garamendi knows what the Tracy City Council did when it enforced Measure A, the slow-growth law that was passed by voters. If the people are that wishy-washy about Measure A, they are as bad as the people they elect.
As I said in my campaign for mayor in 2005, the more you get this council together, the more problems Tracy has. My suggestion then was to call the roll, do the pledge of allegiance, say a prayer, act on any new business and then dismiss the council meeting.
Now we have developers holding the meeting along with all the special-interest folks. The city’s leadership has gone to hell in a handbasket. We need to make the council accountable.
I pushed for live broadcasts so opportunists would stay home and stop trying to influence the council with their money.
Let’s hope Garamendi will live up to her promise, as she has done for Tracy Region Alliance for a Quality Community. She must stick to her guns. We need new faces and ideas on the council.
Tom Benigno, Tracy
