The Delta Charter boys basketball team claimed its third consecutive Mountain Valley League title, ending the regular season with a 55-43 win at Lodi Academy on Tuesday, Feb. 12.

Senior center Joseph Peebles led the Dragons with 24 points and 13 rebounds as Delta Charter (16-7, 13-1 MVL) held the advantage over the Titans (11-3, 7-7 MVL) through the first half and then took a solid lead in the third quarter.

Junior guard Jordan Thornton had six assists and scored 11 points, including 3-of-7 from 3-point range.

The Dragons already had the league title in hand after a 70-52 win at home on Friday, Feb. 8, over the Stockton Christian Eagles.

In that game, Peebles scored 21 points and had 14 rebounds and sophomore DeAndre Ragsdale tallied 16.

West 84, Stagg 53

The Wolf Pack rode a 20-point halftime lead to a victory in their last game of the regular season on Friday, Feb. 8, Stagg High in Stockton.

Junior guard Kenneth Daye led the Wolf Pack (18-9, 5-5 Tri-City Athletic League) with 18 points, including four 3-point shots.

West also hit 10 3-pointers, including five in the first quarter, against Stagg (5-22, 0-10 TCAL).

Senior guard Justin Saar hit three outside shots on his way to 11 points and senior Michael Young hits two outside shot and 10 points in all.

West finishes the season in fourth place in the league but has a spot in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs because of the team’s 18 wins.

Millennium 54, Sierra Ridge/Rite of Passage 35

The Falcons claimed a critical win on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Sierra Ridge/Rite of Passage in San Andreas.

Millennium (15-12, 5-5 Central California Athletic Alliance) needed the 15th win in order to qualify for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V playoffs.

The Falcons finished the league season in third place behind Brookside Christian of Stockton and Elliot Christian of Lodi.

The Falcons took a 14-2 lead in the first quarter Tuesday and continued to outscore the Rams (10-10, 4-6 CCAA). Junior Derritt Scarver scored 15 points, including 7-of-10 free throws, and senior Mark DeWitt scored nine.

Millennium also got a 43-27 win on Friday, Feb. 8, at West High against the Stone Ridge Christian Knights.

Scarver scored 10 points for the Falcons, all in the third quarter, to extend the team’s lead over the Knights (1-19,

0-10 CCAA).

Weston Ranch 73, Kimball 43

Kimball High brought intensity to its last game of the season on Tuesday, Feb. 12, against visiting Weston Ranch, but it wasn’t enough to hold back a taller and faster Cougars team.

The Cougars put their speed and outside shooting skills to work in the second quarter, by hitting five of their team’s 10 3-point shots.

Even after Kimball picked up the pace in the third quarter the Jaguars were unable to close in.

Before Tuesday’s game it was clear that the Jaguars (13-14, 5-9 Valley Oak League) wouldn’t make playoffs this year.

Coach Joe Lawrence said the Jaguars held up well against the Cougars (19-8, 13-1 VOL), who share the league title with Sierra High.

He added that it’s still a step forward for the Kimball team, which finished with the best record so far in three years of boys varsity basketball.

“I’m glad they didn’t give up on the season,” Lawrence said. “We played a really good team tonight. They seemed very athletic. I’m glad the kids played hard the whole season. Hopefully, we can keep building on that.”

On Friday, Feb. 8, the Jaguars won 64-61 at Lathrop High. The Spartans (8-17, 4-10 VOL) held a 33-26 halftime lead, but Kimball caught up in the third quarter and pulled ahead in the fourth.

Toledo had a team-high 19 points while senior guard DeVante Baisa scored 13 points.
