Last week’s Remember When mystery photo, below left, shows retiring city of Tracy public works employee Edd Auch, second from right, receiving a gold-mining pan in October 1972 on his retirement after more than 14 years with the city.
Left to right are retired public works supervisor Ralph Boyd, host of the retirement party; City Manager Frank Lay; Auch; and Bob Schneider, city engineer and public works director. Seated is Auch’s wife, Inez.
Auch, a native of Mott, N.D., was involved with all city building and maintenance projects requiring skills in brick-laying and concrete work. A major project was building the concrete-block bleachers at the Tracy Ballpark. Auch was an avid recreational gold hunter and amateur geologist.
Identifying him in the photo were his niece, Pam Auch Solis, and his granddaughter, Denise Olson.
