Johnson, a senior, has been the Jaguars’ starting varsity quarterback during the three years since Kimball formed a varsity team.
He was the 2011 team MVP and was the starting quarterback of the 2009 junior varsity team, the first year that Kimball had an athletics program.
Johnson said that the honor comes in addition to the friendships he found in four years of football at the new high school.
“We built the bond where after high school and into college we’ll keep in touch and have each other’s backs,” he said. “I just do my best to fight with them and fight for them every game. They’re just amazing guys to be around and be on the team with.”
He received the award at the team banquet at Kimball High on Monday, Dec. 10.
Senior Evan Owens is the Jaguars’ Offensive Back of the Year, senior Nate Pearlman is the Lineman of the Year and senior Alex Toledo received the Coaches Award.
Toledo and senior Chandler Alves were also recognized as team captains.
