Mr. Hernandez was born July 4, 1946, and died of cancer Nov. 28 at Sutter Tracy Community Hospital.
A parishioner of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He worked in construction and renovation for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Hernandez of Tracy; three children, Gabriella Biedinger, and her husband, Justin, of Oakdale, Dena Jordan Spikol of Mississippi and Monte Hernandez, and his wife, Susie, of Tracy; and four siblings, Esther Todd, and her husband, Bill, of Stockton, Jesse Rivas, and his wife, Loretta, of Stockton, Michael Rivas of Manteca and Grace Rivas of Stockton.
Also surviving are his in-laws, Albert and Gilda Emhoff of Tracy; a brother-in-law, Robert Emhoff of LaVerne; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
His parents, Maria and Filiberto Hernandez, preceded him in death.
The Dec. 14 Mass will begin at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard’s, 163 W. Eaton Ave. Inurnment will follow in Tracy Cemetery, 501 E. Schulte Road. Park View Cemetery & Funeral Home, 3661 E. French Camp Road, in Manteca, is handling arrangements.

His Journey in life was full of Joy and hardships. When he was 9 years old his father was murdered. He faced many hardships in his life. With pain and anger he encountered many crossroads. Strong and determined,he never gave up until he found the right path. He opened up his fist and extended a warm and loving hand to everyone he new. He had a wonderful family whom he loved with his whole heart and soul. He was funny, charming and had a magnetic personality.
He loved his friends and always gave positive advice, helping when ever he could. He was more than a construction worker. He was a very talented artist in his trade. He took great pride in his work. Toward the end of his life with all his pain and suffering he was determined to treat everyone right. He loved life and fought to the end determined not to stray from its winding paths. I know our heavenly Father reached out and took BJ's hand leading into Heaven.
I will miss you greatly my dear wonderful Friend. You have taught me so much about life. I will forever be thankful and positive.Someday I know I will see you again in Heaven.
