Kimball wins by double digits

The Jaguars and Yellow Jackets played a close game until Kimball senior forward Alex Toledo hit a 3-point shot at the end of the first quarter energized the team to a 78-66 home win on Tuesday, Dec. 4.

The Jaguars (2-2) kept the ball moving to get past Franklin’s press and would pull away from the Yellow Jackets (2-2) at the start of the third when Toledo nailed two more 3-pointers. He had 15 points for the night.

Senior DeVante Baisa scored 17, senior Evan Owens recorded 13 and senior Derek Van De Streek scored 12.

Millennium 45, Benjamin Holt 34

Junior Derritt Scarver and sophomore Izaiah Williams hit their shots in the second half on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Kimball High to bring the Falcons (4-1) back from a 15-12 halftime deficit to Benjamin Holt Academy (0-2). Scarver scored eight of his 10 points in the fourth quarter, and Williams scored all nine of his points in the second half. Sophomore Matthew DeWitt also scored nine points for the night.

McClymonds 78, West 48

The Wolf Pack took a loss at McClymonds High in Oakland on Tuesday, Dec. 4. It’s the first loss of the season for West (3-1) and the first win for the Warriors (1-1). Leading scorers for West were junior Kenneth Daye with 10 points, senior Justin Saar with nine and senior Michael Young with six.

Delta Charter 62, Tioga 18

The Dragons were relentless against the Tioga Timberwolves in the first game at Delta Charter’s new gymnasium on Monday, Dec. 3. Delta Charter kept up its full-court press until the game went to a running clock in the fourth quarter, and the Dragons also consistently outrebounded the Timberwolves.

Joseph Peebles scored 26 points for the night and had 12 rebounds. Brandon Mills scored nine points, Deandre Ragsdale scored seven and had 10 rebounds and Andrew Silva also scored seven.

Millennium 52, Gustine 51

Falcon junior Marques Shanks scored 19 points and had nine rebounds in Millennium’s win at Kimball High on Monday, Dec. 3.

The Falcons and Redskins played a back-and-forth game, with the Falcons taking control on offense in the fourth quarter to erase Gustine’s 12-point third-quarter lead. Senior guard Mark Dewitt scored 10 points for Millennium.

Buhach Colony 80, Kimball 71

Kimball gave up a 36-29 halftime lead after Buhach Colony hit eight 3-point shots in the second half on the way to claiming the win in Atwater on Monday, Dec. 3.

Leading scorer for Kimball was junior guard Jonah Laguana with 21 points. Senior Alex Toledo scored 16 and senior Chandler Alves scored 10.

Millennium second at Gustine Tournament

The Falcon varsity boys went 2-1 for the weekend to take second place at the Gustine Tournament, a four-team round-robin tournament held Nov. 29 through Dec. 1 at Gustine High.

The Falcons opened with a 50-47 win over Gustine on Nov. 29, but lost 68-42 to Livingston on Friday, Nov. 30. They beat Orestimba 53-43 on Saturday, Dec. 1.

Senior Zach Yanke and junior Derritt Scarver both gained all-tournament honors by scoring 32 points over three games.

During that span, Mark Dewitt scored 30, Marques Shanks tallied 23 and Izaiah Williams scored 22.
