Mr. Baker was born March 14, 1924, in Holdrege, Neb., and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, at one point driving a truck that carried the bomb that later fell on Hiroshima, Japan.
He worked 25 years at Sharpe Army Depot, retiring when his position was transferred to Salt Lake City. He lived in Tracy the last 11 years of his life.
Mr. Baker was a member of the First Methodist Church of Tracy, Primetimers Bowling League, American Legion Post 172 and Tracy Elks Lodge 2031. During the late 1950s, he served as commander of the American Legion post at Sharpe Army Depot.
Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Barbara Fitzpatrick-Baker of Tracy; a daughter, Debbie Castro, and her husband, Joel, of Ripon; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were two wives, Enis Baker and Faye Baker; a daughter, Bonnie Goding; four sisters; and four brothers.
Monday’s graveside service will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Park View Cemetery, 3661 E. French Camp Road, in Manteca. Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave., is handling arrangements.
