Youth Volleyball: Kelly prevails in local tournament

Kelly School’s fifth- and sixth-grade “Red” volleyball team emerged as champions in the five-team upper bracket in this week’s elementary school volleyball tournament at Jefferson School.

Kelly opened with a 2-1 win on Monday, Oct. 29, over Jefferson’s sixth-grade team with set scores of 18-25, 25-8, 18-16. Christine Csech, Sarah Sensabaugh, Kaela Graham and Maygan Brandt led the Kelly team in service points as they brought their team back from a loss in the first set and rotated on the service line to score 19 straight points in the second set.

Kelly’s girls then won the upper bracket championship match 2-1 on Tuesday, Oct. 30, over Traina School with scores of 9-25, 25-23, 15-13.

The tournament continues through Friday, Nov. 2, with six teams playing in the lower bracket, including teams from Banta, Kelly, North, New Jerusalem, Hawkins and Traina schools
