In Service: West grad decorated; Airmen finish training

West High graduate decorated

U.S. Army Pfc. Andrea Leon, a 2008 graduate of West High School, has been awarded the Army Achievement Medal for meritorious service.

Leon has served two years in the military and is a truck driver assigned to the 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas.

She is the daughter of Ana Maria and Ausincio Leon of Tracy.



Airmen complete basic training

Three airmen from Tracy, all West High School alumni, recently graduated from U.S. Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Airman 1st Class April L. Silva graduated from West in 2010. She is the daughter of Jo Ann Silva of Tracy.

Airman 1st Class Mohinder Singh, a 2004 West High graduate, is the son of Balbir Kaur of Tracy. He holds a bachelor’s degree from DeVry University of San Jose.

Airman 1st Class Andrew D. Winter, West High Class of 2009, earned an associate degree from San Joaquin Delta College in 2011. He is the son of James Winter of Surprise, Ariz.

Basic training involves eight weeks of intensive study of military discipline, Air Force values, fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.
