Instructor Julio Castro took 13 students from his academy, including seven from his Pro CSK Elite National Team, to the tournament. Ten of the 13 competed from the lowest seeding and fought their way through their brackets to win championship belts.
Pro CSK members who won first-place belts in point sparring were Austin Huff, 6-7 boys advanced; Kenohe Leonor, 10-11 boys beginner; Rafael Garcia, 10-11 boys intermediate; Ahmanni Scott, 12-14 girls black belt; and Julian Salas, 15-17 boys advanced.
Also winning their divisions in point sparring were Anthony Gomez, 6-7 boys beginners; and Matthew Nguyen, 8-9 boys intermediate.
Local second-place finishers in point sparring were Harlie Curiel, 15-17 girls advanced; Jack Herrick, 6-7 boys beginners; and Emily Barnes, 6-7 girls beginners.
Champions in the continuous sparring divisions were Jack Herrick, 6-7 boys; Matthew Nguyen, 8-9 boys; Kenohe Leonor, 10-11 boys; and Anthony Huff, 15-17 boys.
In the forms divisions, Nicholas Smith placed first in 11-and-under mixed open forms and Nicholas Galvan was second in 5-and-under traditional forms.
Castro was named the overall grand champion in the 18-and-over men’s division.
