It’s part of an effort to help parents ensure their children are safe when driving by making sure car seats are appropriate and correctly installed, according to CHP spokesman Adam Shelton.
Drivers who want their seats checked can pull into the parking lot of the CHP office, 385 W. Grant Line Road, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday. Officers will check car seats for proper installation and will help parents who have purchased one install it for free.
Shelton said those with child seats that do not meet safety standards — such as those that don’t fit properly or that have been recalled — will be eligible for a new seat through a state grant program.
He said anyone who wants to have a child seat checked but who is unable to attend the program can call the CHP office and make an appointment.
