The parade, which starts the celebration of Mexican Independence Day, will begin at 10 a.m. at City Hall and move west on 10th Street and south on Central Avenue to McDonald Park, said Angelo Santos, fiesta chairman.
“In addition to the new parade route, we will have many more participants,” he said. “The parade should be twice as big as last year.”
Santos said Jose Hernandez, the former astronaut who is a Democratic Party candidate for Congress, will be parade marshal.
Also taking part will be Raul Nava, grandson of Mexican revolutionary hero Pancho Villa.
Parade music will be provided by the Tracy High marching band.
The 16th of September and Miss Tracy Latina queens will ride in open cars. Cars from the New Style and Traffic car clubs will cruise along in the parade.
After the parade reaches McDonald Park, fiesta activities
will begin with the crowning of the queens and the sounding of the “Grito,” the call to arms that launched Mexico’s battle for independence from Spain in 1810.
Music and folkloric dancing will be featured by a number of groups, and food, including Mexican dishes, will be served throughout the day, along with a handball tournament and art show.
Santos said all fiesta activities, which will continue until 7 p.m., are open to the public.
