Buccs begin season with blowout win

The youth football season opened Saturday, Aug. 11, when the Tracy Buccaneers hosted the Modesto Raiders at Kimball High’s Don Nicholson Stadium. The Buccs won at three of the four levels.

The Starts beat the Raiders 32-13, with Tyson Dawson scoring all five of the Buccaneer touchdowns and Ernesto Dawson leading the defense with 10 tackles and two sacks.

The Buccaneers’ novice team, defending its league championship this year, won its game against the Raiders 26-0 with three touchdowns from Trevor Pope, including an 88-yard dash to the end zone in the second quarter.

Reno Zuniga also scored a touchdown.

The junior varsity Buccs beat the Raiders 28-0 and did not report statistics.

The varsity Buccs lost 27-24. Buccaneer quarterback Jake Dunniway twice passed to Jake Hitach for touchdowns, and Deion Lightfoot had a 75-yard touchdown run.

The season continues Saturday, Aug. 18, when four more local teams — Panther Youth Football, the Cougars, the Junior Bulldogs and the Mountain House Hurricanes — take the field.
