AT&T workers represented by Communications Workers of America continued their two-day strike in two places in Tracy on Wednesday, Aug. 8, to show their frustrations with contract negotiations.

In a statement issued by CWA, the 18,000 workers of AT&T West represented by the union called for the strike because of what they described as unfair labor practices.

Two AT&T yards in Tracy — one on Tracy Boulevard at Sixth Street and the other on 11th Street near the Heinz factory — had workers represented by CWA Local 9417 picketing in front of the fences.

Union members have been working with an expired contract since April 8.

The workers called for the two-day strike, which began Tuesday, Aug. 7, to draw attention to their dispute with AT&T.

pinkwillow,

I see you often defend unions, which is cool and I genuinely pity these folks having to stand out there all day.

But why can't their union rep write a letter to the Tracy Press. I feel that would be a better way to "draw attention to their dispute with ATT".

I mean, the Union Rep is supposed to be taking care of these people. Instead, they send them out on a hot day.

I'm sure some of these people were as upset about it as I would have been.

Where were their Union Reps while this was happening? Hammering out a deal with ATT?

I used to work for a union, so that part does'nt bother me, but if you send me on strike, let me stay home and watch ESPN, while the Union Rep does HIS job.

For petes sake, some of these union reps are raking in three times these guys salaries and walk around with wing tips and an undershirt in an air conditioned office.

Redhot,

The shop rep. Might have, and it wasn't printed. But picketing is also intended to cause the business a loss of revenue through work stoppage, turning customers away, and keeping scabs from crossing the line and helping the business produce their product or service. normally there will be a union rep. With the picketers to talk to the press.

Ornley are you upset?

I absolutely practice what I preach. It's funny how there is rarely a direct response to my questions. I believe the questions were clear and easy to understand (even with your limited grasp of the English language). But you respond by saying practice what I preach. I take it you are suggesting I sell my computer, I'm not really sure what you want me to show you what to do. Obviously teaching you to write clearly is a lost cause.

I'm not the one complaining about unemployment somehow having a direct tie to labor wanting a fair contract. Or telling someone to go back to work, without any idea of what labor or managements differences are.

So Ornley, fer th ta du ya fer niw.

"Why should management be able to take advantage of labor just because unemployment is high?"

Fair question. It's a simple rule of supply an demand. Supply fer workers is low so th demand they get fer thair wages is low. It's called doin business in a free marketplace. When ya buy yer groceries ya do th same thang. Three ears fer a buck or two ears fer a buck. Bet ya buy th three ears like everyone else an th farmer worked 33% longer ta proved em than th guy that worked ta give ya only two.

"Are you one of those struggling to make ends meet?" Why are ya askin if not ta pick a fight? Ya can't actually be honestly consarned as yer followin question illustrates. "Can't be that bad off, you obviously have a computer, and Internet, probably several tv's, maybe nfl Sunday ticket?"

Ya seem ta be all hung up on what others got an you don't. Listen, ya don't live other people's lives an have absolutely no authority ta judge em.

"Two birds with one stone...Why don't you help everyone out by selling your computer and cancelling your Internet? 1. We won't have to read your comments anymore, and you can donate the money to a charity?

Show us how it's done won't ya MR/Ms perfect?

I'm confused.

One of the picket signs says they demand, "Healthcare for America".

Are they picketing for their own benefits, or for a President's re-election campaign?

If it were me, I would bring my own sign saying, "I'm not a racist, but I will vote for whichever candidate gives me the option to put the insurance money into a savings account".

Hey, it's a hot day, at least they would send me home early.

I find it a bit amusing seeing overweight individuals holding signs stating Health Care For All.

Unless people in this country come to realize health insurance cost and healthcare cost are not coming down until we as a nation get in better shape, health care for all will not work. It is financially untenable. You cannot have affordable care & insurance premiums in a system saturated with high risk paying claim after claim after claim after claim.............., and demanding service for anything and everything under the sun.

Simple supply & demand. Healthier people, less need for health care, less risk/exposure for health insurance companies, prices come down. An increasingly out of shape, pill addicted society, greater need for health care & meds, greater exposure/risk to health insurance companies, higher prices.

This is not rocket science.

Well, that's a relief, because they may be waiting for Obamacare till the next election campaign promises rolls around. At least by then it will be cooler weather.

I feel bad for them. It's too bad their Union Representation could not wait for cooler weather to send them on strike. It must be 101 degrees fahrenheit outside. Isn't that an unfair labor practice?
