Two police caravans toured 11 Neighborhood Watch groups around the city from 6 to 9 p.m. The police department was joined by crews from Tracy Fire Department, California Highway Patrol and Pacific Gas and Electric Co.
Several Neighborhood Watch groups threw parties that were visited by the caravans. The night was a time for neighbors to get to know each other and meet members of public safety organizations.
The police described the visits as a way to spread awareness about crime prevention and get in touch with watch groups around town.
Chief Gary Hampton, Capts. John Espinoza and Jeremy Watney and two lieutenants traveled to meet residents.
2012 was the eighth year Tracy participated in the national event, which is in its 29th year.
