The national event, from July 8 to 14 in Fairborn, Ohio, was the third in a row where Sawin swept all three of her categories. She won first place in the strut, first in the dance/twirl, and first in the women’s solo.
Her wins qualified her for grand champion status among 8-and-younger girls, and she was judged second in both strut and dance/twirl and third in women’s solo.
She also placed first in all of her events May 19 and 20 at the California State Championships in Stockton and swept the gold medals June 23 and 24 in the Western Regional Championships in Newark.
