This week’s Remember When “mystery photo” shows a new car on display in a Tracy park. What was the make of car, and what year? And who are the two men standing behind it?

Cars of the same vintage will be among those on display from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. this Saturday, July 21, in downtown Tracy at the “Then & Now” car show.

Last week’s Remember When “mystery photo” shows a towering fire that destroyed Otto’s Plymouth auto dealership at 124 E. 11th St. the night of June 20, 1962.

The fire, which took more than an hour for firefighters to bring under control, completely destroyed the brick service garage and a new stucco showroom. Hundreds of Tracyites lined 11th Street to watch firefighters — regulars and volunteers — fight the blaze.

Mary Williford, widow of the late Otto Williford, who owned the auto agency, reported last week that employees had smelled something burning earlier that day but could find nothing. The fire broke out about 9 p.m. The location is now home to a car wash.

Linda Corso Wilson was in Lincoln Park with her family when she heard a loud boom and then saw flames shooting into the sky. “It was like the Fourth of July,” she said.

Steve Burchard remembered seeing the flames when he was 9 years old.
