Three people, including a highway patrol officer, were injured Friday, July 13, when the officer’s patrol car was hit by a tractor-trailer on eastbound Interstate 205 as the officer attempted to assist at the scene of an unrelated crash.

California Highway Patrol Officer Michael Taylor, 35, was responding to single-vehicle crash involving a Scion on the interstate, just west of MacArthur Drive exit at 8:47 p.m., according to a CHP report.

As Taylor changed lanes to get closer to the shoulder of the interstate, where the Scion was parked, a tractor-trailer driven by Marvin Sheley, 46, struck the back of his patrol car, the report states.

The impact sent the patrol car into the right shoulder, hitting Fidel Dominguez, 36, of Manteca who stopped to assist the Scion’s driver, Dong Thi Troung, 26, of Stockton, according to the report.

The patrol car then went over an embankment and flipped end-over-end after the front-bumper-bar dug into the dirt. The car then struck a tree and rolled onto its roof as it went down the remainder of the embankment.

Troung reportedly sustained major injuries and she was taken to San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp while Dominguez went to Doctors Medical Center in Manteca with moderate injuries. Taylor was treated and released from Sutter Tracy Community Hospital with minor injuries.

CHP spokesman David Slate said Monday, July 16, Troung and Dominguez were both expected to recover from their injuries, and Taylor had returned to work at Tracy CHP that day. The driver of the tractor-trailer was reportedly uninjured and no charges are expected to be filed against him or the officer, Slate said.
