Last week’s Remember When “mystery photo,” at bottom left, shows Ed Arnaudo (center) receiving a plaque from Chuck Bailey, West Coast agricultural manager for the H.J. Heinz Co. in April 1979. At right is Bob Hall, Heinz senior fieldman.
Arnaudo was honored for being the first grower to sign a Heinz tomato contract in 1946 — when the Tracy plant had just been opened — and for 33 years as a Heinz grower. The plaque included an engraved letter from H.J. Heinz II, the chairman of the food-processing firm.
Heinz closed its Tracy factory after the 1997 processing season. Ed Arnaudo was identified in the photo by his daughter, Sandra Grisedale, who lives in Morgan Hill.
