The liquor, drink and bar superstore BevMo!, short for Beverages and More, is slated open in the Tracy Marketplace shopping center on Grant Line Road this fall.

According to BevMo! officials, the liquor emporium’s home has yet to be built. The 9,000-square-foot building is slated to go on a plot of land between the Golden Corral restaurant and Mancini’s Sleepworld at 2860 W. Grant Line Road, near Interstate 205

“We’re hoping to open in November,” said Liz Zaninovich, who is a licensing permit and titling specialist with BevMo!.

BevMo! carries a wide array of spirits, wines, beer, soft drinks and bar equipment.

The director of BevMo! public relations, Kris Mulkey, said the company has a few more details to work out, so the actual opening date may change. She said her company has a long list of places where they would like to build a store, and chose Tracy.

The closest BevMo! stores to Tracy are in Stockton at 6393 Pacific Ave. and Livermore at 4454 Las Positas Road.

“We’re super excited about going there,” Mulkey said. “We’re always looking for a good site with good parking, good accessibility and visibility.”

Talk of a new retail business going into the Tracy Marketplace shopping center surfaced in mid-April, when commercial real estate broker Jeff Brotman went before the Tracy Planning Commission. Brotman sought and received approval to expand the number of businesses the marketplace could advertise on the large shopping center sign adjacent to Interstate 205.

Brotman said earlier this week he was not at liberty to confirm that BevMo! was the business set to move into the shopping center by the end of the year.

Great News too me. Now I don't have to drive to Livermore or Stockton to buy my favorite Wine. Thank you BevMo.

A BevMo coming here is old news by the way TP. Just take a look at permits next time and you could have printed this article several weeks ago...

Finally a large store with a decent selection.

Tracy has too many ghetto-low budget stores for booze.

If you don't want that you have to go to Rallies or some grocery store to get a good selection. Then you have to sit in line for 20 minutes.

It will be nice to finally see a bevmo in town.

Great! Would love to see Trader Joe's come into town also. Oh, but they sell alcohol too. Creating even a bigger ghetto.

Rosa62, Do you even know what a BevMo is? You're making it sound like Tracy is heading down the crapper because of this business decision. It's actually a very nice store with wines, beers and sodas from around the world. I would hardly say that Tracy is ghetto going to be ghetto because of this store. I think that this is awesome! Tracy needs more shopping and bigger stores. People who live here should want to spend their money in their city, instead of traveling to Livermore, Modesto, Stockton, Manteca to spend their money. It creates jobs and business.

By the way, my second sentence was meant to be sarcastic so please refrain from using this statement to infer that my comment does not make sense.

Thank you.

It is nice to see another business opening in Tracy but a liquor store? That should make Tracy appear to be a family friendly city.

Anyone who understands urban development knows that liquor stores, gun shops, and tobacco shops are the mainstay businesses in any ghetto. If you drive through the depressed areas of any small, medium or large urban area you find these businesses on every other corner.

Sounds like this is where Tracy is heading if you ask me. Thank you Mr. Mayor. Thank you City Council. Thank you Mr. City Manager.

You are successfully turning what used to be a family friendly city into a ghetto.

Rosa, I think you may be over-reacting a bit. Menlp Park, Burlingame, Livermore and Pleasanton all have Bevmos yet none could really be called ghettos. More factors play into a place being a ghetto than the mere presence of a store that sells alcohol. As for family friendliness, my wife and I have two kids and occasionally like to buy a bottle of wine. In your book that probably makes us gutter dwelling winos but I suspect there are plenty more families like mine out there.

Anyone familiar with a computer and the internet could easily find out Pleasanton, San Ramon, & Danville also have BevMos. Would you classify those cities as ghettos?

If everyone is willing to "settle" for a liquor store as the result of the City's extensive efforts at economic development then heaven help us all.

Bevmo is nothing more than a glorified liquor store. If this is the best the city can do then we're really in trouble.

Someone else mentioned Trader Joe's that would have been a better option than Bevmo. Why not throw a couple million at them? After all, we gave a handout to Macy's didn't we?

Actually, I'd argue this is a step in the right direction for Tracy. Yes, there are many crappy liquor stores off 11th that look more like blight to me and might attract the wrong crowd, but BevMo is a more upscale type store that will hopefully put those other places out of business. I think the worst thing about the small liquor stores is the loitering. Now for Tracy to get rid of all the check cash stores and other trashy places that don't bode well for the city.

Where are all those folks who were saying it was going to be a trader joes going into this space? They were about as accurate as psychics or weathermen.

Dunkies has never been slated to come here..Krispy Kreme may move in to where the old Long John Silver's used to be though. And we need a BevMo..It's annoying having to go to Livermore or Modesto.

I'm sorry, amlee1978. I forgot the actual name of the donut joint! I do not know if anything is going on with making that place. I am looking forward to that donut place coming!
