St. Bernard’s Catholic Church’s Young Ladies Institute No. 150 welcomed two new members, Lorraine and Arlene Avila, during the June 8 meeting of the group.
YLI will meet next at 5 p.m. July 11, a Wednesday, in the church’s small hall. Officers will be sworn in, and members will say their goodbyes to Darlene Castro, institute deputy, after a year of service.
Limited tickets are available now for YLI’s bunco fundraiser on July 28 in the St. Bernard’s small hall. For $20, participants can spend the afternoon playing the dice game and competing for prizes. A raffle, appetizers and desserts, and cold drinks and coffee will round out the event’s entertainment. Activities begin at 1 p.m. Those who wish to take part are encouraged to call early.

South Side Community Organization moves meeting
Because Independence Day falls on the first Wednesday in July, the South Side Community Organization will meet a week later than usual, on July 11.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Gaudalupe Community Center, 126 W. First St. Committee members will report on the upcoming 16th of September celebration and the annual Day of the Dead altar workshop.
