After his best season yet with the Millennium High football team, coach Jayson Dias will get one more game with the players who helped build the Falcon team over the past four years.

Eight Millennium players, all recent graduates of the local charter school, were chosen for the 20th Small Schools All Star Football Game at 7 p.m. July 14, a Saturday, at Big Valley Christian School in Modesto.

Among the group is Jamani Woods, who started with the Falcon team as a freshman and was the starting quarterback the past two years. Woods, the Central California Athletic Alliance offensive MVP for 2011, is headed to LaVerne University in Southern California, where he will play NCAA Division III football.

The other Falcon all-star players who contributed over the past three years are Nuronn King, Sam Fleury, Christian Espinosa, Drew and Tanner Carroll. A.J. Takata and Estevan Castellon.

“Every one of these guys has the opportunity to play somewhere,” Dias said, adding that most would head to nearby community colleges.

Dias jumped at the opportunity when Larry Shimel, coach of the Big Valley Christian team and organizer of this year’s game, gave him a chance to direct an all-star team.

“It’s definitely going to be a learning experience, being able to see the techniques these other kids bring to the table,” he said.

The North team comprises 26 of the top players from the Central California Athletic Alliance, Mother Lode League and Trans Valley League.

“We should be pretty well balanced,” Dias said. “It will be interesting to see how well they do with what we run, offensively at least.”

The North team will face off against a South team that includes players from the CCAA, TVL and Southern League.
