Latin beats filled McDonald Park as the 2012 Music in the Park series kicked off with the Bay Area band LaTido on Thursday, June 14.

About 150 people gathered under the shade of the South Side park’s trees for the first of six free concerts sponsored by the Tracy Arts Commission.

The five remaining performances will be in Lincoln Park, the first time since 2010 the greensward on Eaton Avenue and Holly Drive will host the concert. The concert series was moved downtown in 2011 because of renovations to Lincoln Park.

The upcoming Thursday, June 21, event features the blues and be-bop sound of Hurricane Sam and the Hotshots beginning at 7 p.m.

The concert series is free to attend, and concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and a picnic basket for the performances.

I'd like ta offer my thanks an a hearty well done ta my friend Thomas Wesley Huffman who as a Tracy Commissioner fer th Art's Commission got th ball rollin, against a huge wall of community resistance, ta create th first Music in th Parks concerts that today so many appreciate.

It goes ta show ya that with th perseverance of a God fearin good man can accomplish when he puts his mind to it.

Few people know th story but, as Paul Harvey says, "That is th rest of th story."

Good job Wes, ya deserve th credit even though ya won't really get th recognition fer it. But ya were never one much interested in personal recognition then anyway.
