Pinder was three places short of qualifying for Saturday’s finals in the state championship meet, leaping 46 feet, 8¼ inches.
Pinder earned his way to the state competition with a triple jump in the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters meet of 47-11¼.
Of the 32 competitors in the first round of the state event, 15 previously made jumps of 47 feet or better to make it to the state level. But on Friday, only eight athletes broke the 47-foot mark.
The top nine will compete again on Saturday in the finals.
The leader as of Friday was Tim White of Hart High in Newhall, part of CIF’s Southern Section. He recorded a jump of 50-2¾ on his first attempt.
