Golf: Kimball qualifies team for Division IV tournament

Kimball High’s golf team advances to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV championships after placing third in the Valley Oak League championship tournament on Tuesday, May 1, at Diablo Grande Ranch Golf Course in Patterson.

Kimball’s golfers had a team score of 458, with Riley Pizl leading the Jaguars (82) on the par-72 course. Brett Williams and Phillip Simpson each shot 87, while Karan Bains tallied 97, Michael Crooms recorded 105 and Reese Maxfield logged 107.

Oakdale High placed first and won the VOL season championship with a team score of 409.

Kimball finished third overall in the league standing. The Jaguars were tied with Sonora with a 9-5 record coming into the tournament, but Kimball shot three strokes better than Sonora to take sole possession of third in the league.

Top golfer for the day was Ryan Jones of Oakdale, who shot 75 and edged out East Union’s Will Brink in a playoff hole.
