Affordable Pet Vet Clinic, 2630 S. Tracy Blvd., next door to Raley’s, opened its doors on April 18 and is owned and operated by veterinarian Kuppe Nagaraj.
Nagaraj’s specialty at the seven-day-a-week clinic is the spaying and neutering of canines and felines. He’s performed more than 50,000 during his 18-year career.
He first came to the United States in 1992 from India, where he had worked as a veterinarian for 10 years.
His first position in the U.S. was with the Humane Society as a veterinarian in Tucson, Ariz., and was followed by time with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Oakland. Nagaraj eventually came to Tracy after becoming the franchise owner of Banfield Pet Hospital inside PetSmart.
After selling his franchise, Nagaraj opened his new clinic, which is equipped with a surgical room that includes a heart and blood pressure monitor, x-ray room and three waiting rooms. The clinic also has a full-service pharmacy for pet medications and vaccinations.
“People want top-of-the-line equipment and treatment for their pet,” Nagaraj said. “I want people to be happy with the service and come back again. I want them to have complete satisfaction.”
In addition to the typical dogs and cats, Nagaraj also provides services for pocket pets, such as rabbits, ferrets and Guinea pigs.
What is unique about the clinic, he said, is its openness to the families of their patients. Each room is surrounded by windows to allow pet owners to a view of their animal receiving treatment or undergoing a surgical procedure.
“I really care about the pets,” he said. “I want them to be happy, and I want their owner to understand what is happening to their pet.”
The clinic offers a Well Pet Plan for $30 to $45 per month that discounts services, including medical tests and teeth cleaning. Coupons are also available on their website.
“I don’t want to be a millionaire,” Nagaraj said. “I want to serve the community and its pets.”
In the future, Nagaraj said he has plans to hire a part-time veterinarian and a full-time licensed groomer to expand his services.
Affordable Pet Vet Clinic is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
