West High cheer meetings

WHEN: 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, March 20 and April 17

WHERE: West High cafeteria, 1775 W. Lowell Ave.

DETAILS: West High students who want to try out for the 2012-13 cheer squads should attend these sessions to pick up a tryout packet and get information on upcoming tryouts. Parents must also attend.

Kimball freshman orientation

WHEN: 7 p.m., Monday, March 26

WHERE: Athletic Complex, Kimball High School, 3200 Jaguar Run

DETAILS: Kimball High School Athletic Director Steve Thornton will host a presentation for eighth-graders who plan to participate in Kimball athletics during the 2012-13 school year. Parents and students will have the opportunity to meet the coaches and learn more about the athletic programs at Kimball High. Participation requirements, fees, eligibility, practice schedules and off-season workouts will be discussed.

West High swim clinic

WHEN: 4:30 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, March 26 to 29.

WHERE: Pinkie Phillips Aquatics Center, West High, 1775 W. Lowell Ave.

DETAILS: The West High swim team will host a four-day clinic for swimmers of all levels, from beginner to advanced. Early registration is recommended, as space is limited.

Tracy High cheer tryouts

WHEN: 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, March 26 to 29

WHERE: Tracy High main gym, 315 E. 11th St.

DETAILS: Tracy High cheer teams will have tryouts for the 2012-13 school year. Proper forms and paperwork must be completed before the tryout dates. Participants should visit for required forms.

Girls basketball league

WHEN: Sign-ups through March 30

WHERE: Tracy Boys & Girls Club, 753 W. Lowell Ave.,

DETAILS: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Tracy will host a girls basketball league this spring. Registration is open from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday until March 30. Games will be played Saturdays from April 21 to June 9. There will also be a player clinic April 3.

Easter softball camp

WHEN: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, April 9

WHERE: Rainbow Fields in Modesto

DETAILS: Debbie Nelson of All American Sports Academy of Tracy will direct a camp for softball players ages 7 through 14. The camp will offer instruction for recreational and travel ball players, including skills, position play and game situations. Advance registration is required.

Free mud run for kids

WHEN: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 12

WHERE: Eagal Lakes Resort, 12 W. Lorenzen Road

DETAILS: Recon Run for Kids is a 400-meter obstacle race for children ages 13. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The day includes refreshments and a tour of Eagal Lakes Resort.

Charity mud run

WHEN: 7:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16

WHERE: Eagal Lakes Resort, 12 W. Lorenzen Road

DETAILS: Recon Run is a 5k boot camp-style adventure-obstacle-mud run designed for families, athletes, running groups, police and fire personnel, and teachers. Proceeds will support Modesto Junior College’s track and field and cross country teams, Military Moms of Tracy and The Semper Fi Fund, which supports injured and critically ill members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. Organizers expect more than 4,000 participants and 2,000 spectators. Multiple waves of runners will take on the course in 15-minute intervals starting at 8:45. Check-in is at 7:30 a.m. There will also be a free 400-meter obstacle course for kids younger than 13 from 10 a.m. to noon.

COST: $65; $60 per person for teams; $55 for military with ID and Eagal Lakes members. Those who register before April 15 will receive a $10 per-person discount.
