After a close first quarter the Jaguar defense came through to limit the Ripon team’s scoring efforts and win the consolation final of the Manteca Tournament. The win puts Kimball at 9-3 going into league play this week, starting on Tuesday at home against Manteca. Leading scorers for Kimball were Mykelle Elliott with 27 points, J.D. Schmidt with 12, and Jonah Laguana, Ben Juarez, and Kean Mutia with five points each.
Sophomore boys: West 47, Tracy 43
West High’s boys started strong in the final round of the Manteca Tournament, which served the Wolf Pack well as the Bulldogs attempted a comeback in the fourth quarter to cut West’s lead to 47-43 at the end. Anthony Ross led the Wolf Pack with 18 points and Alvin Crenshaw scored 12. The win puts West at 6-6 for the season.
Sophomore boys: Kimball 57, West 42
Kimball’s boys met their defensive goal on Thursday as they held the Wolf Pack to an average of less than 12 points per-quarter during the second-round game of the Manteca Tournament. Kimball led the way in the first half for a 30-19 lead at the end of the second quarter, and West made its comeback in the second half to get within three points before Kimball pulled away for the win. Leading scorers for Kimball were Mykelle Elliott with 14 points, Jonah Laguana scored 12, and J.D. Schmidt scored 10. West’s leading scorers were Kenny Thompson with 15 and Anthony Ross with 12.
Freshman boys: Tracy 57, West 54
West’s boys ran the play they needed in an attempt to tie the game up at the end, but missed the shot and turned over the ball with 10 seconds left to leave Tracy with the 57-54 win in the final round of the Manteca Tournament on Friday. Spencer Carroll scored 13 for West, Kirk Truehill and Elijah Tuando scored 12 each, Max Aduako scored 10, Kyle Hunt scored three, Austin Torma scored two, and Kona Chong scored one. Results for Tracy’s boys were not reported.
Freshman boys: West 59, Ripon 29
The West High freshmen played a complete game on Thursday to beat Ripon 59-29. Kirk Truehill led West’s offense with 16 points, Spencer Carroll scored 13 and made 12 rebounds, Elijah Tuando scored 12, Kona Chong scored six, Kyle Hunt had five points and 10 rebounds, Donovan Patterson and Austin Torma scored three points each and Tucker Morris scored one.
