Jon C. Domke, of Mountain House, was recently promoted to the rank of captain in the Civil Air Patrol, the auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force.
Domke also received the Grover Loening Award, a recognition of leadership and personal development. He leads the youth programs for Modesto-based Lt. Col. Arthur King Composite Squadron 50 as deputy commander for cadets.
About 350 of the Civil Air Patrol’s 35,000 senior members earn the award each year.
Before joining the Civil Air Patrol more than a decade ago, Domke was awarded the Achievement and Korean Defense Service medals for his service in the Air Force.
Civil Air Patrol cadets take part in wreath laying
Cadets from Mountain House were among a group that presented the colors at a Wreaths Across America ceremony Dec. 10 at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine.
The color guard from Lt. Col. Arthur King Composite Squadron 50, based in Modesto, served as seven ceremonial wreaths were placed to remember those who had served in the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine, as well as prisoners of war and service members missing in action.
The cadets also placed more than 2,000 wreaths on individual veterans’ graves.
University students commended for academics
Two local students, Genevieve Vallotton of Tracy and Justin Dalrymple of Mountain House, were named to the Biola University dean’s list for the spring 2011 semester.
The dean’s list includes those who earn a GPA of 3.6 or higher for the term and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2.
Vallotton, a fall 2011 graduate, also earned a place in the university’s honors society, Epsilon Kappa Epsilon. She was selected by faculty in her department, approved by a committee and invited to join by the dean’s office, on the basis of service to community and a GPA of 3.75 or higher.
Members of the honors society — no more than 7 percent of each graduating class — wore special cords during commencement Friday, Dec. 16.
Biola University, in La Mirada in Southern California, is a private Christian university with 6,250 students.
