As part of the South Side Community Association’s parade and party that marked Mexican Independence Day, Shelton was honored for her achievements.

She is a senior at Tracy High School who studies in the International Baccalaureate Academy, and she is a member of the city’s Youth Advisory Commission. Shelton has also been a key driver behind the local chapter of the Becca’s Closet charity, which gives free prom dresses to girls who cannot afford them.

Shelton pledged during her acceptance speech to do her best to represent the city and community. She also shared plans to tutor and mentor younger students in the coming year.
