He went on to compete in the 1500-meter run on Friday morning, where he was the number-three qualifier in the first round, coming in at 4:14.66. He followed that up with a second-place time of 4:06.78 in the final on Sunday afternoon, coming in just one second behind winner Spencer Haik of Springfield Track Club, who ran it in 4:05.74.
Also competing at the Junior Olympics was Deon Pinder, who will be a senior at West High starting this fall. He placed 18th in the triple jump in the young men’s division with a jump of 46 feet, 4 ¾ inches.
