Tracy runner collects gold, silver at Jr. Olympics

Blair Hurlock of Tracy brings home gold and silver medals from the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympics in Wichita, Kansas. Hurlock, running with the Pleasanton Heat track and field club, placed first in the intermediate boys 3000-meter run on Thursday with a time of 8 minutes, 55.62 seconds.

He went on to compete in the 1500-meter run on Friday morning, where he was the number-three qualifier in the first round, coming in at 4:14.66. He followed that up with a second-place time of 4:06.78 in the final on Sunday afternoon, coming in just one second behind winner Spencer Haik of Springfield Track Club, who ran it in 4:05.74.

Also competing at the Junior Olympics was Deon Pinder, who will be a senior at West High starting this fall. He placed 18th in the triple jump in the young men’s division with a jump of 46 feet, 4 ¾ inches.
