Philpott also closed in on Dylan Kwasniewski in the quest for the series Rookie of the Year title, with Kwasniewski now just seven points ahead of Philpott, who has collected 656 points over five of the series’ six races this year.
“For regular points, we’re in the hunt,” Philpott said. “Our goal has been to stay in the top 10 and finish in the top 10,” he said.
This will be his first full season in the division, and he plans to make the remaining eight races in the series. He is driving for Speed Zorb/Holloran’s Performance Ford. Mike Holloran is the car owner, and Duane Koski is the crew chief.
Philpott said Saturday’s race on Infineon’s two-mile road course could have gone better. He had transmission trouble, which forced him to run the end of the race in high gear. Still, his finish was good enough to gain him Rookie of the Race honors.
Next up is the Southern California Toyota Dealers 200 at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale on Saturday, July 2. The series runs until Nov. 12, with the final race at Phoenix International Raceway. The series will return to All American Speedway in Roseville on Oct. 15.
