• Tracy African American Association welcomes applications for its Wayne Nelson Academic Scholarship from college-bound black students who will graduate this spring from Tracy high schools. The group has awarded more than $60,000 to date.
Applications, which can be downloaded from the group’s website, must be submitted by mail no later than April 23. Detailed requirements are also available at www.taaa.net.

• The San Joaquin Valley chapter of the National Defense Transportation Association, a nonprofit that serves the Tracy Defense Depot and people in the Tracy, Manteca and Stockton areas, will accept applications until April 5 for awards up to $1,000. In 2010, the group gave out 22 scholarships.
Applicants may be graduating high school seniors or students of any age, income or GPA who are enrolled in an accredited learning institution. Full details and an application form are available online at www.ndta-sj.com or by phone request.
