West wrestling team finishes just shy of tourney’s top spot

West High’s wrestling team placed second out of 53 teams at the Lou Bronzan Invitational Tournament at Liberty High in Brentwood on Dec. 21 and 22.

West scored 201 team points, right after first-place Liberty, which finished with 220.5 team points.

The top wrestler for West was Justin Martin Del Campo, who went 4-1 and placed second in the 119-pound weight class.

West wrestlers to take fifth place included Ulysses Juan (112), who went 3-2; Mitch Selna (135), who went 4-2; Dominic Williams (189), who went 4-2; and Matt Mahe (215), who went 4-2.

Sixth-place wrestlers, who all were 4-3 for the tournament, were Trevor Manaois (125), Daniel Aflague (130), Daniel Austin (145).

Seventh-place wrestlers were Jacob Biehl (160), who went 4-2; Christian Thiessen (171), who went 4-2; and Kris Merrill (285), who went 5-2.

Wrestlers who went 3-2 for the tournament were Kyle Selna (140) and Chris Maroulas (152).
