The weeklong crime scene camp will have 260 eighth-grade students follow a homicide case from the start through the trial. Students go through different sessions in which they examine fingerprints, analyze blood and create a suspect’s face on a computer.
Students form IGCG take on the roles of the suspect, investigators and attorneys. Visiting classes are the jury, who decide the trial outcome.
This year’s mock crime follows the fatal stabbing of a black girl by a white supremacist in a racially motivated attack. Students piece the evidence together and then watch the trial and render a verdict at the jury trial.
This is the second year the school has conducted the program.
