I watched the Tuesday, Dec. 4, City Council meeting with much anticipation about the swearing in of the new council and hearing what the process would be for which a new person is to be seated in Mr. Bob Elliott’s seat.

I could not believe that this meeting was used as a live campaign forum by Ray Morelos and his supporters, because he feels he deserves the seat because he came in third. We voted for two seats, not three. Simple math tells you he is not automatically handed the seat, and an appointment by the elected council or special election to determine who will fill a vacated seat is the proper way to determine the best candidate.

I was completely dismayed at the polarizing effect his claim to this seat is having on the community and the council. The negativity and playing of the race card by those speaking was completely out of line, as was personally attacking other council members for their opinions.

If this is any indication of the type of effect on the community and council Morelos would have, no thanks.
