Chris Myers, a West High physical education teacher, was named this week as the new Wolf Pack varsity football coach.

Tracy Unified School District announced Tuesday, May 7, that Myers replaces Matt Loggins, who was selected as Kimball High’s varsity football coach in March after three years leading the West program.

Myers confirmed Wednesday, May 8, that the district had offered him the job and he accepted, but he would not comment further, pending formal approval by the TUSD Board of Trustees.

The school board will vote on his appointment at its regular meeting Tuesday, May 14.

The board will also vote on the appointment of English teacher and varsity basketball coach Derek Sprecksel as West’s athletic director.

Myers holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from California State University, Sacramento, and earned a master’s degree in education from National University.

A teacher at West High since 2005, he was West’s freshman football coach from 2006 to 2008 and in 2012.

Myers was previously an assistant freshman football coach at West from 1995 to 1996 and at Tracy High from 1996 to 1997.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THIS IS THE WORST POSSIBLE HIRE WEST OR ANY SCHOOL COULD HAVE MADE! I dont like talking bad about people , and Chris is an ok guy, but a varsity football coach or any level football coach he is not. He was the worst freshman coach ive ever seen, not only did he never win he ruined players careers. he has no idea how to call plays, doesnt listen to his assistant coaches, i can go on and on! West High is doomed for years with this hire!! i feel bad for the kids, cant believe this was the best choice, even if it was the only choice at the time they should have waited until someone else stepped up. both the bulldogs and jaguars were smart enough to deny him positions now they both will benefit from having him at west. WHAT A JOKE

At least he cares about his players and will be loyal to the program and school. Unlike Matt Loggins who has already applied for a job at a Clovis School less then 2 months after he applied and accepted the Head Coaching job at Kimball. The sad part is he conspired with Steve Thornton to get the previous head coach fired so he could get the job at Kimball. As stated before Loggins only cares about Loggins. He will back stab and screw anybody if he feels he can get a better opportunity out of it.
