The couple met while enrolled at University of California, Davis, and Cai proposed to Cheryl at Lake Tahoe in July 2010.
The bride, daughter of Nick and Katy Higgins of Visalia, is employed as a permitting assistant for Kinder Morgan, an energy company, in Orange.
Her matron of honor was Heather Dochtermann, then of Reno, who has since moved to Fargo, N.D.
The groom, son of Ian and Nicki Roberts of Tracy, is working toward a doctorate at City of Hope in Duarte, a comprehensive cancer center and research institute. Cai graduated from West High School in 2007 as valedictorian of his class.
His best man was Garrett Dong, a fellow West High graduate.
The newlyweds honeymooned in Hawaii and made their home together in Monrovia, in Los Angeles County.
