Water Polo: West, Tracy start season with wins

Both Tracy and West started the season against Pacheco High of Los Banos, and both local teams notched solid wins.

West vs. Pacheco

West High’s water polo teams opened their seasons with a trip to Pacheco High in Los Banos on Monday, Aug. 27, netting wins at both the varsity boys and varsity girls levels.



Varsity girls: West 21, Pacheco 1

West’s girls dominated in their first match of the season with a 21-1 win.

In addition to the offensive onslaught, the Wolf Pack defense allowed just five shots on goal.

Geraldine Vasquez led West with 10 goals. Cassidy Waters scored six goals, Madison Tessera and Lucy Schermesser scored two each, and Ahimee Trujillo also added one.

Goalie Emily Stoica had four saves.



Varsity boys: West 15, Pacheco 9

Kevin Oetken led the Wolf Pack with four goals for the day. Bradley McCain and Ken Kurita scored three goals each, Romeo Francisco scored two, and Azero Alcala, Matt Dunniway and Jason Bussey also scored goals.

Goalie Jacob Thomassen had eight blocks.



Tracy vs. Pacheco

Tracy High opened its water polo season Friday, Aug. 24, with a home match against Pacheco High of Los Banos. Tracy won at three of four levels.



Varsity girls: Tracy 21, Pacheco 7

Tracy’s girls took an early lead against Pacheco and stayed strong through the second half for the 21-7 win.

Leading scorers were Allie Britt and Sarah Agee with four goals each. Makennah Bailey scored three; Annie Foote, Shelby Gregory and Nicolette Rocha scored two each; and Courtney Eddy, Kianna Rivera, Lane Fishburn and Samantha Williams also scored goals.

Goalie Dallyce Marglon had eight saves, an assist and two steals.



Varsity boys: Tracy 10, Pacheco 8

After a close first half, the Bulldogs edged ahead in the third and fourth quarters for the 10-8 win over Pacheco.

Blake Adams, Chris Ramon, Anthony Singh and Austin Lowe each scored two goals, and Aaron Knapp and Taylor Mellick also scored.

Goalie Chaz Samaniego had nine saves, and assist and two steals.



Junior varsity boys: Tracy 8, Pacheco 5

Tracy led the first half and held on for the win Friday.

Sam O’Brien scored three goals, John Legasa scored two, and Tomas Landeros, Drake Gordon and Marc Anchartechahar also scored goals.

Kurt Finney had four saves in the goal, and Jacob Buckley had three saves.



Junior varsity girls: Pacheco 10, Tracy 7

Pacheco outscored Tracy in the second half to take the win Friday.

Leana Martinez and Bridgette Houser scored two goals each, and Brooke Ornellas, Jasmine Beaird and Julia Coty also scored goals.

Taya Dillard had five saves in the goal and Mikayla Saint had two saves.

Tracy played great in every game. Pacheco doesn't have a girls JV team so the Tracy High JV girls played against their varsity team and only lost by 2. It was a great effort. GO BULLDOGS!
