Water Polo: Kimball secures playoff spot

Kimball High’s varsity girls water polo team is assured a spot in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs as it enters the last week of the season.

The Jaguars clinched a playoff spot and second place in the Valley Oak League with a 9-7 win at Sonora on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Kimball (14-7, 3-2 VOL) juniors Tahnee Trew and Courtney Moberg, who scored four goals each. Senior Colby Chase scored one goal.

The Kimball girls previously lost 16-5 to league leader Oakdale on Oct. 17 in Oakdale.

Kimball’s boys also played at Sonora on Tuesday but the score was not available. The team (12-8, 0-4 VOL) previously lost 7-6 in Oakdale on Oct. 17, with senior Trevor Trew scoring four goals.

The Jaguar girls go to the first round of playoffs on Nov. 7 at Woodcreek High School in Roseville.

Tracy vs. Lodi

Tracy High’s teams traveled to Lodi on Tuesday, Oct. 22, to take a loss in San Joaquin Athletic Association play.

Lodi won the varsity boys game 12-5. Tracy junior Chris Ramon led the Bulldog offense, scoring three goals for Tracy (7-5, 2-4 SJAA).

Senior Chris Kennedy and junior Taylor Mellick scored one each, and senior goalies Chaz Samaniego and Vince Mello combined for 11 saves.

Lodi won the varsity girls game 12-2. Scoring for Tracy (8-5, 2-4 SJAA) were seniors Samantha Williams and Makennah Bailey with one goal each.

Tuesday’s contests follow wins for both teams on Friday, Oct. 18, at Franklin High in Stockton.

Tracy’s boys beat Franklin 10-9 after playing to a tie in regulation and then going for four overtime periods.

Kennedy was Tracy’s leading scorer with five goals.

Tracy’s girls beat Franklin 11-1, with three goals for junior Claire Guite, two each for senior Megan Jessen and juniors Nicolette Rocha and Leana Martinez, and one each for juniors Mikayla Saint and Krystal Ramos.

West at Franklin

West High’s girls (5-8) claimed a 10-3 nonleague win on Oct. 17 at Franklin High in Elk Grove. Senior Cassidy Waters scored seven goals.

Sophomore Catrina Hoang, and seniors Geraldine Vasquez and Madison Tessera scored one goal.

West’s boys (3-14) lost to Franklin 13-9 on Oct. 17, and followed with a 9-7 win at Antioch High on Monday, Oct. 21. Statistics were not available.
