A fourth-grade teacher from Anthony C. Traina Elementary is being held on $22 million bail following his arrest Monday, Aug. 5, on allegations that he sexually molested 14 children since August 2006.

Darrel James Golden, 59, faces 21 counts of lewd acts upon a child, 11 counts of molesting a child and one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child. He was indicted Friday, Aug. 2, by a San Joaquin County Superior Court grand jury and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Tracy police officers found Golden at 2:11 p.m. on the 1400 block of Alegre Drive on Monday and he was taken to San Joaquin County Jail, according to Detective Gary Castillo of the Tracy Police Department.

Golden was arraigned on the charges in Stockton court on Tuesday, Aug. 6, during which he notified the court of his intentions to hire his own attorney. The case was continued to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12.

After the court hearing, Deputy District Attorney Elton Grau said each criminal count against Golden carries the potential for a life sentence if found guilty.

Grau said investigators believe they have identified all of the victims but he said “potentially, there could be more.” He declined to comment about whether the victims were students at Traina School.

According to the indictment, the alleged incidents involve four boys and 10 girls between the ages of 6 and 10, from August 2006 to June 2007; August 2011 to May 2011; and August 2012 and November 2012.

Golden is accused in the indictment of touching the children on their genitals, chest, butt and stomach. It also alleges that Golden fed grapes to several of the children.

On Dec. 4, the Tracy Press reported that a teacher from Traina School was placed on administrative leave following accusations of inappropriate contact between that teacher and a student on Nov. 28.

Officials at the Jefferson Elementary School District confirmed in a press release Monday that Golden was the teacher removed in November.

On Wednesday, Bridges’ administrative assistant, Grace Merritt, said the superintendent was not taking calls about the case “to be on the safe side.”

She referred questions to the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s office.

I think it is probably about time to start putting cameras in hallways and class rooms in EVERY Tracy school.

After all, who watches these government entities?

I am a former police detective and child forensic interviewing expert. I have interviewed hundreds of sexual assault victims throughout my career. These kids often don't know how to tell anyone what happened. Depending on the age, upbringing, and any threats by the suspect, the kids can't find it in themselves to expose what has been occurring. It is a sad, sad, day when these kids are victims. So many of the kids I have interviewed idolize their teachers. Teachers are in such a powerful position, which is often taken for granted by the people who hire these people. I personally feel that the school districts need to hire former police investigators etc who know how to read people when they hire teachers. Often a full background check, like the ones the districts do now, don't reveal anything because these sick perverts just have not been caught yet. It takes a gross mistake on their part to reveal their despicable behavior.

The point of my post to you is please don't put any of the blame for non-reporting on the backs of these kids (victims). I can tell you I have had plenty of child victim's whom were taught what to do about strangers, but never said a word.

If Mr. Golden is found guilty, I hope his new residence in Cell Block 4 is right next door to Bubba ‘Licious’s cell. Let this sub-human rot in hell, as he will be tossing the salad daily.

I'm wondering if the other kids were students too. It's upsetting that kids aren't taught what's inappropriate and what isn't. How could he get away with this for so long without SOMEONE reporting SOMETHING!!
