Tennis: West opens with two wins

The Wolf Pack tennis team (2-0) gave the Cougars of Weston Ranch High few breaks on Monday, Aug. 27, in Stockton in West’s second preleague match of the season.

In the singles matches, Emma Bell beat Chelsea Olitan 6-0, 6-1; Regina Pacheco beat Belerine Barut 6-2, 6-1; Jessica Diaz beat Avi Valingit 6-1, 6-0; Ashley Phillips beat Ysenia Reynoso 6-1, 6-0; Maliyah Shavers beat Kazoua Vang 6-0, 6-0; and Chloe Pounds beat Jovana Juarez 6-0, 6-0.

In the doubles matches, Abby Sevilla and Julie Schobey beat Preet Kaur and Veronica Contreras 6-1, 6-0; Coleen Andrada and Allie Bettencourt beat Stephanie Milan and Parmeen Kaur 6-1, 6-0; and Arianne Coleto and Rachel Vindiola beat Amy Vang and Marjot Mhil 6-1, 6-0.



West 8, Beyer 1

West High’s tennis team opened its season Friday, Aug. 24, with an 8-1 win at home over Beyer High of Modesto.

Beyer’s Simone Jacques’ beat West’s No. 1 player Emma Bell 6-3, 6-1, but West won all its other matches in straight sets.

In the singles matches, Regina Pacheco won 6-0, 6-0; Jessica Diaz won 6-1, 6-0; Ashley Phillips won 6-0,6-1; Maliyah Shavers won 6-1, 6-0; and Chloe Pounds won 6-2, 6-1.

In the doubles matches, Abby Sevilla and Julie Schobey won 6-0, 6-0; Kristen Steed and Coleen Andrada won 6-0, 6-0, and Allie Bettencourt and Arianne Coleto won 6-0, 6-1.
