TFC Blaze finishes second at Tahoe

The Tracy Futbol Club girls Blaze soccer team finished as the under-13 division runner-up in the Come Up For Air soccer tournament, Saturday, June 16, and Sunday, June 17, in South Lake Tahoe.

The Blaze, an under-12 team that played up an age group, beat the East Diablo Impact ’98 2-1 on Saturday morning. Gianna Jong scored first on a penalty kick, and Jennifer Romero scored the winning goal later in the second half. Providing midfield support were Karina Rodriguez, Megan Johnson, Jazmine Yeager, and Maria Mendicino.

The Blaze lost the second match 4-3 to the South Tahoe Futbol Hawks in a back-and-forth game. Shelby Bartlett, Megan Perry and Madison Pugh scored for the Blaze, and Ashley Wells and Elianna Schreppel both had assists.

Blaze won their first Sunday game 1-0 over FC Elk Grove Rage, with Jong scoring the only goal on a penalty kick. Goalie Amanda Leal earned the shutout, and Emma Mendicino, Jong and Anjelica Gonzalez helped on defense.

The championship game was a rematch with the South Tahoe Futbol Hawks, who won it 2-0.
