USTA Tennis play day

WHEN: 5 to 7 p.m. today, March 23

WHERE: Dr. Powers Park, corner of Tracy Boulevard and Lowell Avenue.

DETAILS: Tracy Parks and Community Services, the United States Tennis Association, Future Stars 2000 and local teaching pro Gary Heil will host an event for kids ages 4 and older and for adults interested in the city’s tennis lessons. The event is also an introduction to tennis summer camps, junior league teams and private lessons.

Youth bass tournament sign-ups

WHEN: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 24

WHERE: New Heart Community Church, 1647 Bessie Ave.

DETAILS: The church will host a youth bass tournament for children from low-income families Saturday, May 19, at River’s End Marina. The day will include a barbecue and trophies for all participants. Pre-registration on Saturday, March 24, is required. Space is limited, and participants must show proof of residence and income.

Tritons swim tryouts

Kimball freshman orientation

WHEN: 7 p.m. Monday, March 26

WHERE: Athletic Complex, Kimball High School, 3200 Jaguar Run

DETAILS: Kimball High School Athletic Director Steve Thornton will host a presentation for eighth-graders who plan to participate in athletics at Kimball High during the 2012-13 school year. Parents and students will have the opportunity to meet the coaches and learn more about the athletic programs at Kimball High. Participation requirements, fees, eligibility, practice schedules, and off season workouts will be discussed.

West High swim clinic

DETAILS: The West High swim team will host a four-day clinic for swimmers of all levels, from beginner to advanced. Advance registration is recommended, as space is limited.

Girls basketball league

DETAILS: The Tracy Boys & Girls Club will host a girls basketball league. Registration will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday until March 30. Games will be played on Saturdays from April 21 to June 9. There will also be a player clinic April 3.

Tracy baseball crab feed

DETAILS: The Tracy High Baseball Boosters will host a crab feed and live and silent auctions to raise money for the team. Cocktails are at 6 p.m., and dinner is at 7 p.m.

West freshman orientation

WHEN: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 3

WHERE: Steve Thornton Gymnasium, West High, 1775 W. Lowell Ave.

DETAILS: West High will host an athletic orientation for all incoming freshmen for the 2012-13 school year. Coaches from all of the Wolf Pack athletic programs will be on hand to take sign-ups, provide summer practice information and answer any questions. Counselors will also be available to help with class registration and to provide new information on the NCAA academic entrance standards.

West High School cheer meeting

DETAILS: West High students who want to try out for the 2012-13 cheer squads should attend this session and pick up a tryout packet and get information on upcoming tryouts. Parents must also attend.

CPOA memorial run

WHEN: 7:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12

WHERE: Shadow Cliffs Regional Regional Park, 2500 Stanley Blvd., in Pleasanton

DETAILS: The fourth annual California Peace Officers Association’s Memorial Run and Family Barbecue honors officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, and supports the families they’ve left behind through Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS), California Chapter. The run includes 10K and 5K races, plus a 1-mile run for kids 12 and younger. The 10K race starts at 8:20 a.m., the 5K at 9 a.m. and the children’s run at 10:15 a.m. Entry fees include a barbecue catered by Outback Steakhouse, which will begin at 11 a.m., along with the awards ceremony.

COST: Race, $40, with a $5 discount for those who register before May 8; kids’ fun run, $20; barbecue alone, $12 adults and $7 kids 12 and younger

Charity mud run

WHEN: 7:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16

WHERE: Eagal Lakes Resort, 12 W. Lorenzen Road

DETAILS: Recon Run is a 5K boot camp-style adventure-obstacle-mud run designed for families, athletes, running groups, police and fire personnel and teachers. Proceeds will help Modesto Junior College track and field and cross country teams, Military Moms of Tracy and The Semper Fi Fund, which supports injured and critically ill members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. Organizers expect more than 4,000 participants and 2,000 spectators. Multiple waves of runners will take on the course at 15-minute intervals starting at 8:45. Check-in is at 7:30 a.m. There will also be a free 400-meter obstacle course for kids younger than 13 from 10 a.m. to noon. Those who register before April 15 will receive a $10 per-person discount.

COST: $65 per person; $60 per person for teams; $55 for military with ID and Eagal Lakes members
