Former Tracy resident Shirley Salter Varian, 77, of Grass Valley, died Feb. 14 at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley.

Born Feb. 28, 1935, in New York, N.Y., Mrs. Varian lived on the Delta in the Tracy area for 14 years before moving to Grass Valley in 2001.

Survivors include her husband, James T. Wilson of Grass Valley; three daughters, Sandra Minor of St. Louis, Victoria Varian, and her partner, Jodi Shedletsky, of Denver, and Alexandria Barnard, and her husband, Robert, of Cary, N.C.; a sister, Norma Couillard, and her husband, Robert, of Denver, N.C.; and a granddaughter.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Thomas B. Salter and Ina Walker Salter; first husband, Richard A. Varian; and brother, Thomas N. Salter.

The family asks that friends and relatives write a memory of Mrs. Varian, attach it to a purple balloon and release it on Thursday, Feb. 28, her birthday.
