Last week’s Remember When “mystery photo,” below left, shows Joe Robinson, longtime Southern Pacific engineer, waving from the cab of a locomotive on his “last run” before retiring in December 1986.
His granddaughter, Janet Robinson, said those on the ground welcoming the retiring engineer to the Tracy yard included herself; his wife, Patricia Robinson; his son, Mark Robinson, still an SP conductor; brother Wayne Robinson, an SP chief clerk; and sister-in-law Vivian Robinson.
Joe Robinson’s father also was an SP conductor, and a brother, Ed Robinson, was an engineer killed while on duty with the railroad.
A nephew, David Robinson, and retired Postmaster Bob Hedrick, a longtime friend of Joe Robinson, also identified him in the photo.
Joe Robinson died in November 1992.
