Last week’s Remember When mystery photo, below left, showed four members of the Tracy Fire Department getting ready to install Christmas decorations on downtown light posts in December 1980.

Left to right: Bill Steinkamp, Ivan Booke, Wes Cooper and Junior Sansing. Firefighters put up the holiday decorations for a number of years.

Doug Booke recognized his father, Ivan Booke, a Pearl Harbor survivor who is now living in the California Veterans Home in Yountville. Richard Caldron also recognized those in the photo.

Today’s Remember When mystery photo, top left, shows two men — one in uniform as a Marine gunnery sergeant and other wearing snazzy plaid trousers — putting toys in a Toys for Tots barrel at a local financial institution nearly three decades ago. Who’s that guy in plaid, and what did the Toys for Tots project lead to in Tracy?
