Last week’s Remember When “mystery photo,” at bottom left, shows four members of the Eagles Auxiliary lighting a cake in April 1961 to celebrate the Tracy organization’s 14th birthday. Left to right: Esther Thomas, Jean Payne, Leona Willis and Mae Darr.
The Eagles Auxiliary, affiliated with the Tracy Aerie of Eagles, was founded in 1947. Mae Darr was the first president, according to her daughter, Leona Darr Willis. The women’s organization continued to be active until 1983, when dwindling membership forced it to give up its charter.
In addition to Willis, who is still a member of the national Eagles Auxiliary, responding to the photo were Arleen Robbins, Evelie Grebil and Wanda Darr Gentry.
