This Thursday, America celebrated the signing of the declaration of our independence from Great Britain, July 4, 1776 — 227 years ago.
As we celebrate this historic anniversary, we are reminded of the role that you, Father, played both in the writing of this historic document and in the wisdom and the courage that you instilled in those brave men who drafted it.
They wrote that you, our “Lord, had created us with certain unalienable rights … life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Credit was given openly to you for taking our forefathers to the point of war with England in order to right the wrongs of suppression.
Your presence, your wisdom, your motivation and your relationship with so many of our countrymen — and especially those in political office at the time — all worked together to motivate the action that needed to be taken in order to break the chains of virtual slavery that bound America to the corrupt British monarchy. You, Lord, strongly influenced the lives and hearts of many of our Founding Fathers.
Help us, Father, to regain the mindset that you and you alone are behind all good things we Americans receive as a nation.
Help us to recapture the spiritual side of government (on all levels) and to once again seek your wisdom in all of the laws and regulations you move us as leaders to make. We need your leadership and the blessings you will pour out upon our nation once again.
Thank you, Lord.
