Police Log: Couple scammed on Craigslist

A couple of people told a woman that they made arrangements through a Craigslist advertisement to rent her house on the 1400 block of Willow Glen Court at 5:42 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2. They told the homeowner that they agreed to pay $800 in rent through an ad, but the woman told the people she never advertised her house as a rental.

Police found someone else had set up a Yahoo account and a Craigslist listing for the woman’s house and told the renters to send him money to another state. Police found no money was exchanged.

Tracy police received 140 calls for service Thursday, Aug. 2. The following is a sample of those calls.

12:27 a.m.: Police arrested a 39-year-old man for drug-related charges on the 300 block of East Grant Line Road. The arrest occurred after a caller reported a man and woman arguing for a few days. Police found the man also had an outstanding warrant.

2:52 a.m.: Police arrested a 33-year-old man for an outstanding warrant on the 1200 block of Harding Avenue. The arrest occurred after a caller reported people inside the house of a woman who passed away recently.

8:27 a.m.: A woman called to report her dog was attacked by two dogs near Corral Hollow and Schulte roads. Police checked and found one of the dogs was injured. The incident is under investigation.

1:46 p.m.: Police uncovered what may have been marijuana grow house on the 2600 block of Nivens Street. Police shut off the utilities, and the house was posted as uninhabitable. A sign was also posted that people were allowed in the house only during daylight hours.

2:25 p.m.: A woman received a counterfeit $10 bill from a business on the 500 block of West Grant Line Road. She said she learned it was counterfeit when she tried to use it at Walmart.

3:34 p.m.: Police arrested a 38-year-old man for a drug-related charge following a pedestrian stop on the 500 block of West Lowell Avenue.

5:26 p.m.: A woman told police someone was living in a field behind her house on the 3500 block of Castle Court. She said she found a mattress and bicycle at the location.

7:39 p.m.: A store clerk said a man was inside complaining that someone stole his unlocked bicycle outside Goodwill, 2626 N. Tracy Blvd.

10:49 p.m.: A caller told police his brother sold his handgun to a dealer after taking it from his house on the 2000 block of Florentine Way.

11:43 p.m.: A man called police after seeing a man lying on the ground next to a canal near 11th Street and MacArthur Drive. He said he was yelling at the man from across the canal, and he was not responding. Police checked and found he was a fisherman who fell asleep.

11:55 p.m.: A woman called to report someone broke her front window on the 300 block of West Court.
